New Amsterdam – Case #3: Anouk Nicolas

Victim: Daloris Blair

After a day off investigating murders, Thursday begins with another killing. This time, someone was murdered in their own home.

As soon as the call came in, I immediately set off for the crime scene, at 1101 Wolfe Terrace. As usual, I was the first person there, arriving before the enforcers. I picked the lock of the front door, and discovered the body in the living room.

There was no time to start investigating. Enforcers were right outside the door. I hid underneath the victim’s bed and waited for the officer to leave. The only clue down there was a fingerprint that belonged to the victim.

After the officer left, I returned to the victim. Their wallet confirmed that they lived here. The fatal wound was a gunshot, an 8mm round that came from a pistol or revolver. Time of death was estimated to be between 6:30 – 7:45am, around the time the call was made.

An expended 8mm round and a business card was left nearby. The words written on the card were:

DIDN’T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES
CUT TO THE CHASE
THEY MUST BE WORTHY

I checked for any fingerprints on it, but I could only find the victim’s.

I stepped into the bathroom, and saw a message written on the wall.

PUT A PIN IN IT

What does this mean? I had no idea, and there were no other clues in the room. This is very strange.

With limited critical evidence in hand, I checked the phone to determine who called last. Another dead end. I logged the victim’s phone number just in case it comes up again.

One more place to look, and that’s the front door. I scanned it for fingerprints… and there’s one on it that I don’t recognise. Did it belong to the killer? This was the only promising clue I had to identifying the killer.

The victim worked at Lai Groves & Partners, so that’s where I headed next. I paid the receptionist in exchange for permission to explore the office. I looked through the employee documents folder.

One of them had the fingerprint that I found at the victim’s front door!

Her name was Anouk Nicolas, and she became my prime suspect. After disabling the security system, I handcuffed her in the computer room. I searched her belongings and found pistol ammo! Why would she have that if she was not the killer?

Unfortunately, I was unable to find the murder weapon on her. After a quick check of her v-mails, I learned that she doesn’t live alone. Someone by the name of Eilidh Becker was living with her. I took Anouk’s key and went to her address at 904 Labropolous Terrace, as revealed by her wallet, but not before going to the city hall to pick up the report form and more handcuffs.

When I arrived, I quickly determined that it was not vacant. Eilidh was at home. I decided to wait for an opportunity to explore their home for a weapon.

They were not going to bed anytime soon, so I decided to act. After their back was facing me, I snuck up on them and handcuffed them. I then searched their property. I looked everywhere, but I could not find the weapon. I then recovered the handcuffs and ran as fast as I could from the premises.

I returned to Lai Groves & Partners and waited for Anouk to finish work. I followed her home, and waited for an opportunity.

I spotted a Lazarus 5 on the shelf above the television. When the lights switched off, I scanned it and found Anouk’s fingerprints on it. This was the murder weapon.

A short moment later, the pair went to bed and were fast asleep. I handcuffed Anouk again and rushed to the city hall to hand in the paperwork.

On the way back home, I celebrated my successful case with a Croque Monsieur and some coffee. I’m avoiding Starch Kola like the plague. I don’t trust them one bit.

When I returned home and was getting ready for bed, a new murder case flagged up. 8:30pm at night. Around an hour after completing this one.

Give me a break.
