New Amsterdam – Case #2: Dexter Bernard

Victim: Liang Su

A radio message confirmed a new murder has taken place. Barely 15 hours after the previous one. Not much time to rest in this city, is there?

It was raining heavily outside, but that didn’t stop me from reaching the crime scene as fast as I could.

As I arrived at Alana Parade, I spotted the body outside the Cobra Bar. The body’s resting place was surrounded by a heart drawn with lipstick. The lipstick used was left nearby, as was a sharp utility knife.

I checked the fingerprints of both of these items, and they had a consistent match. These fingerprints 100% belonged to the murderer. I just needed to find out whose they belonged to.

I searched the victim’s body. He died within the last hour, and he was slashed to death by a bladed weapon. His name was Liang Su, and details of where he lived and worked were also found in his possessions. He worked for someone called “Creditable Company”? Huh. That’s what a dishonest company would say.

His address was 1001 Labrapoulos Terrace, which was where my investigation took me next. Whilst there, I checked his v-mail and read his journal that was under his bed. It immediately became clear to me that he was being stalked by a man with white hair.

According to the journal, the victim saw his stalker whilst at the Orange Lottery bar. He mentioned being with Lola and Romane at the time. His address book contains the address for Lola, so I went to 1501 Labrapoulos Terrace to see what I could find.

When I got there, I knocked on the door. A person named Clayton McMillan answered it. He was a male with white hair, so I had to make sure of his innocence. He was very cooperative. I learned that this “Lola” was Lola Flowers, and he provided me with his fingerprints, proving he was not the one who murdered Liang.

Looking back at the journal, Liang mentioned being at the Orange Lottery bar, so that’s where I headed next. I infiltrated the backroom, and checked the surveillance footage. I didn’t see the victim in there, but I did see two white-haired males that were worth investigating.

I asked around, and I was getting a very promising lead on one of them. They were at the scene of the crime at the time of the murder, and they were also seen at Lima Heights, the location where the victim worked.

When I stepped into Creditable Company, I saw the murder suspect working at the computer of the main room. After I asked him for a tour of the building, I went through the company’s employee files. His name was Dexter Bernard, and his fingerprints… matched the ones found at the scene of the crime!

I rushed to the city hall to grab the case papers and a pair of handcuffs. By the time I returned to Creditable Company, he was gone! His computer was left logged in, so I used it to find out where he lived. It was 403 Lima Heights. His work shift was nearly over, so I broke into his house and waited for him under his bed.

Two hours later, he returned home. He put his stuff down, washed himself, then went straight to bed. At that moment, I made my move. I handcuffed him on his bed, then rushed to the city hall to hand in my investigation results. He was the murderer, and the utility knife found at the crime scene was the murder weapon.

After grabbing a quick shower back home, I went to the Ivory Iguana for a hamburger and some coffee. After that, I returned home and slept for like 10 hours.

What an exhausting couple of days so far. I’ve not had much time for myself in this city. Maybe today I can get some stuff done?
